Cosmic Loom: The New Science of Astrology, Dennis Elwell, Urania Trust, 194 The Butts, Frome, Somerset BA11 4AG, 2000, ISBN 1-871989-09-4, paperback, 288 pp, £15.95.

Although not strictly a history this enlarged and revised reprint of the 1987 edition of this work has historical value, as Elwell’s exposition of his theories on astrology are interwoven with an extensive discussion of astrologers’ attitudes, mainly during the twentieth century. Elwell also raises other issues of concern such as the manner in which astrological meanings are constructed (p. 95, the discovery of Chiron in 1977) and the problems raised by scientific research into astrology (p. 175, the 1985 Shawn Carlson CPI test published in Nature).
